Our Schumi Bees got through the winter well!

Spring greetings from our flower meadow: Schumi-Bees start the new bee year healthy

We are delighted to report that our two bee colonies survived the winter safely. Around 60,000 bees, affectionately known as Schumi Bees, are already back at work in our company’s own flower meadow—a welcome sign of a strong and healthy bee year.

The colonies are cared for by Caritas Betriebs- und Werkstätten GmbH (CBW) in collaboration with experienced beekeeper Guido Dondorf. The project is an integral part of our commitment to sustainability and biodiversity.

During a recent visit to the site, we were able to witness the vitality of the bee colonies for ourselves: busy buzzing, lively activity, and full honeycombs – our Schumi Bees are ready for the coming season.

A special highlight is already coming up this summer: our first honey harvest. We’re excited to see the results of our little colleagues’ hard work!

Did you know? Exciting facts about honey bees:

  • A bee colony can consist of up to 50,000 to 70,000 bees in summer – in our country it is currently around 60,000.

  • Honey bees fly up to 3 kilometers a day to collect nectar and pollen.

  • Around 80% of the pollination of crops and wild plants is carried out by bees – without them there would be significantly fewer fruits, vegetables and flowers.

  • Depending on the cell type and feeding, an egg develops into either a worker, a drone or a new queen.

We are very pleased with the successful overwintering of our bee colonies and look forward to a productive bee year.
