DEFIBRILLATOR IN THE SCHUMACHER DRIVER REGISTRATION

Focus on saving lives: Our defibrillator is ready for use

We are pleased to announce a significant safety measure on our company premises and in the surrounding region: We have installed a defibrillator (Automated External Defibrillator = AED) in the Schumacher driver registration office at Monnetstrasse 17 in Würselen. This life-saving device is not only available to our employees, but also to the public, as the driver registration office is always easily accessible during opening hours (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.).

To ensure access for everyone in an emergency, we will also have the location of the defibrillator listed in publicly accessible directories. This will enable both our employees and people in the area to quickly access the device in an emergency, thus saving valuable time.

Defibrillator training for our employees

In order to further increase operational readiness, we are offering our employees training in the use of defibrillators on December 4th. The event is conducted by experts and provides both theoretical basics and practical exercises. This training is carried out on the recommendation of the Medical Association, which emphasizes regular training in the safe use of AEDs and first aid.

Why we took this measure

By installing the defibrillator, we want to send a signal: quick reactions can save lives. Cardiovascular diseases are one of the most common causes of death worldwide, but an AED can make the difference between life and death in an emergency. Our initiative aims to raise awareness of the importance of first aid and promote a culture of helpfulness. Anyone can be in a position to save lives – whether through courageous intervention, the use of an AED or the implementation of first aid measures. Let us take responsibility together, because every second counts.

We thank everyone who supports us in making our environment safer!

What is a defibrillator and how does it work?

An AED is a portable medical device used in the event of sudden cardiac arrest. Such an emergency can occur anytime and anywhere – whether at work, at home or in public. The defibrillator delivers electrical impulses (shocks) that can help restore the heart rhythm and save the life of a victim. The great advantage of an AED is that it is designed for laypeople. The device guides the user through the entire process with clear, spoken instructions. As soon as the electrode pads are stuck to the victim’s chest, the AED automatically analyzes the heart rhythm and decides whether a shock is necessary. The user is then prompted to deliver the shock. If a shock is not necessary, the device gives clear instructions on how to provide further help, for example how to perform chest compressions.

How to use a defibrillator in an emergency

    1. Stay calm and call for help: Alert the emergency services (112) and get the defibrillator.
    2. Turn on the device: The AED will automatically begin giving instructions.
    3. Attaching electrodes: Attach the electrode pads to the patient’s bare chest as shown on the packaging.
    4. Follow instructions: The AED is analyzing the heart rhythm. Keep your distance while the analysis is running.
    5. Deliver a shock (if necessary): When the device prompts you, press the shock button. Then follow the AED’s instructions until professional help arrives.

Anyone can use a defibrillator – no previous knowledge is required. The faster an AED is used, the higher the chances of survival.
